Have you ever encountered a problem when installing windows XP on newer hardware especially those that have SATA controllers for the hard disk? In other words the blue screen of death when your system tries to detect your hard disk? This is because the windows operating system is unable to find the drivers for the disk controller in this case your SATA drives. This problem only happens when installing windows XP not vista. XP being quite an old operating system obviously does not have SATA drivers back in the day. In order to get Windows XP to recognise the mainboard’s SATA controllers as a bootable drive, the drivers for the controller needs to be loaded and installed during the initial windows installation. This is normally done by loading the appropriate drivers onto a 3.5″ floppy disk, and following directions when prompted by windows in the first stages of the install to “Press F6″ if you want to install a third party SCSI or RAID controller. However, if you do not have a floppy drive, which most newer computers nowadays don’t have, then you’re out of luck ! Windows XP will not detect any drivers on a USB stick or CD-ROM disc at this stage of the installation, and thus it will be impossible to get your SATA controller to work and detect your hard disk. The only workaround to this is to integrate the included drivers that comes with the computer into the windows installation disk. This process is called slipstreaming. This ensures that the drivers for the controller are loaded before windows looks for places that it can install itself, allowing you to install the operating system to the SATA hard disk. In order to slipstream the necessary drivers, you will need the following: The nLite Software makes is easy to integrate drivers into the Windows XP install disk. You can even integrate service pack, hot fixes and update packs or tweak your system while your at it.
Just follow the instructions on the screen and you will be fine. After you have integrated the drivers or service packs go to the create bootable ISO and create the image. It will then create a new windows install disk with the drivers or service packs that you have integrated. After that process is done you can burn the ISO image using your favorite burning software.
If you’re struggling with decreased performance on a Windows based machine, it’s a simple fix to check to make sure your IDE drives aren’t operating in a slower, ineffective transfer mode. When fresh from the box—or your workbench— your computer should have had all it’s IDE drives set in Direct Memory Access mode. This is a far speedier method of disk access than Programmed Input/Output mode. The technical side of the two modes is dense but let it suffice: DMA is a the fast and preferred method and PIO mode is the slower method Windows defaults to after having six redundancy checks fail. Things like power outages, doing a hard reset and other disk interruptions can cause these errors. Your Windows box may be operating in the slower transfer mode because mistakenly thinks that your system is unstable or that there is something wrong with your disks. The fix for your computer downshifting into PIO mode is simple. Go to your Control Panel, click on the System icon, open up your Device Manager and pull up the properties for your Primary and Secondary IDE channels. Under the Advanced settings tab you’ll be able to set the Transfer Mode to “DMA if available”. Reboot and you should be in business. Are My Sites Up? is a web-based application for tracking the up time of web sites and sending notifications when they are down. If you need to know immediately if a site is down completely or just unavailable to you, a service like Down For Everyone Or Just Me? is a great tool. If you’d like to monitor a site more consistently and get notifications when there is an interruption in service you’ll need a more advanced tool. Set up a list of up to 50 sites to monitor at the Are My Sites Up? web site. In addition to being able to check the status of the sites on the Are My Sites Up? control panel as seen in the screenshot above, you can also set it to email you and send you an SMS update (Unfortunately sms update doesn’t work for brunei) when one of your monitored sites is down. The service requires no ownership of or modification to the web sites you are monitoring, you can use it on your own site or any site you want to keep an eye on.
This year’s Macworld and Consumer Electronics Show offered dozens of new product announcements, but only a handful will actually change how you work, play, and live. Let’s take a look at the top 10 gadgets, announcements, or software products that you don’t need an expense account to buy, and which promise some pretty cool things down the road. 10. iLife 2009 and iWork’s new features and tweaks Hi there everyone !! It’s been a really long time since i’ve updated in here. Been so busy with real life events that i didn’t have time to update. Hopefully that will change soon enough this new year of 2009. I reviewed the earlier model of the Jawbone bluetooth headset back in February 2008. So today i bring you the newer model the the Jawbone II.
The Jawbone 2 is lighter, 50% smaller, has improved voice enhancing and even more aggressive noise-canceling technology, a simpler ear hook design and a sleek new look that leaves the predecessor in the Stone Age. Jawbone 2 comes at a hefty price of US$129.99 and yes, I agree that’s extremely expensive considering most cell phones don’t cost that much - but if you want the ultimate in Bluetooth headsets, then it is worth every penny.
